Idaho's Lewis County is a county that may be found in the state's north central area. The county had 3,821 residents as of the 2010 census, ranking it as Idaho's fourth-least populous county. In 1911, Lewis County was founded. Nezperce serves as the county seat. Meriwether Lewis is the explorer for whom the county has his name.

Although Native Americans make up less than 6% of the county's population, the majority of the county is located within the Nez Perce Indian Reservation. In November 1895, the US government made the reservation available for white settlement, much like it had done with the lands in Oklahoma. President Cleveland had signed the proclamation less than two weeks prior.

The county, which was founded on March 3, 1911, bears Meriwether Lewis' name, who was a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Until the Expedition spent a month in the Clearwater River Valley (close to the town of Kamiah) after returning from the Pacific Coast in May 1806, the Nez Perce Indians who called this region home had no contact with white people.

The county is home to the northern part of the Camas Prairie, an elevated area that resembles a prairie south of the Clearwater River in the middle Columbia basin. Just upstream of where the Lewis and Clark Expedition launched their canoes for the journey to the Pacific Ocean, the Clearwater River forms the eastern limit of Lewis County.
